Six on Saturday. 24. 8. 2024

At last we have had some serious rain overnight, the garden will be very pleased and so will I,  just the odd little shower during the week didn’t make much difference. Last week I mentioned that the seasons are changing, leaves are changing colour and the temperature has dropped, well more leaves have dropped and we are now told that the temperatures will go back up next week!

Time to show my six for this week…………

This photo says it all to me! Cyclamen hederifolium peeping up through the fallen chestnut leaves!

Amelanchier lamarckii showing signs that change is already here.

Rosa glauca now having its second spot in the limelight now that its hips are turning red.

Keeping it company is Cotoneaster horizontalis by the kitchen window. The birds will soon strip this bare, the berries don’t last very long at all.

The common myrtle, Myrtus communis is now flowering under the dead oak tree in the centre of the garden, the flowers are only tiny, but so pretty.

Clematis pagoda has taken its time flowering this year, I think it is rather late compared to previous years, but better late than never!

Rambling Rosa Snowgoose is still flowering away on the archway into the woodland, really pleased at how it keeps going all summer.

Thank goodness I took my photos yesterday, everywhere is soaking wet today! There we have my six for this week, do pay a visit to Jim at Garden Ruminations to see other sixes from around the world.

Looks like Autumn is truly on the way with all the lovely berries and changing leaf colours. Hope you get some more warm weather Pauline, perhaps it will be an Indian Summer!

  2. Graeme says:

The berries and rosehips look lovely. It’s definitely looking rather autumnal already – I’m blaming the lack of rain here for all the fallen leaves!

    • Pauline says:

The horse chestnuts are the first leaves to fall here every year Graeme, I should be used to it by now. The berries just confirm that the seasons are changing even though we don’t feel that we’ve had a summer!

  3. Helen Jones says:

That’s a lovely clematis. It’s definitely very autumnal now, I hope the weather forecast about it warming up again is right!

  4. Fred says:

Indeed I found that this clematis is a late bloomer for you…and most of the plants and colours that you show us this week make me think of autumn… it’s around the corner, right!?

  5. Cathy says:

Oops, I think I seem to have combined my comments from this and last week’s post in my reply to the latter! Love the flowers on your pretty clematis – does this clamber amongst other plants, or do you have it growing as an informal ‘clump’ on its own?

  6. The berries remind me of autumn and the birds stocking up for a harsh winter.
