Raindrops keep falling!

We have had so much rain over the last couple of weeks, sometimes torrential, sometimes just a light sprinkling with sun in between the showers. One morning when I was up nice and early, the raindrops were twinkling in the sunshine like diamonds, every shrub, leaf and flower was bedecked so I thought I would try and capture some.

The rain is causing havoc with the tennis at Wimbledon as well as work in the garden here, any rain we have in the morning reaches Wimbledon by the afternoon. Hopefully this week will be better weather wise so we can all progress. It doesn’t stop the brain working though and I  now have plans to add to the gravel area at the back which I haven’t shown you very often because I think its a bit boring,  watch this space!

    Lovely.
The Stipa looks great with raindrops – I can’t wait until mine starts producing seedheads.
We have had heavy rain here too, but thankfully dry in between so am able to do lots of weeding. I can’t believe what happened in the garden the two weeks we were away!

Gardens go mad when we go away don’t they Annette, it’s amazing what they get up to! I think the Stipa is my favourite grass, it is so beautiful when it has the sun behind it too!

  2. Rosemarie says:

I agree with Annette: the raindrops are lovely but the Stipa really caught my eye, Pauline 🙂

    • Pauline says:

The Stipa is a super grass Rosemarie, unlike lots of others, it behaves itself, no seeding around, no spreading to far, just a really beautiful plant.

    Turning the rain to magic!
(I tried the other day and got fuzzy leaves that looked diseased)

  4. Susie says:

You caught some great images Pauline. Stop gigantic seems to be a favorite among the comments. I like it also.

  5. Alain says:

You will have to send some our way. So far this year we seem to get rain always in extremis – just before things really begin to suffer. The garden here is in minor a rain shadow. Some days there will be rain a mile away from here but not here.

    • Pauline says:

We are still waiting for summer to arrive Alain, it is much cooler than it should be, thanks to the Jet Stream being too far south and stopping the warm air from Africa getting to us!

  6. Denise says:

A lovely idea Pauline and a lovely selection of photos. I like rain on the dark leaves of the berberis and cotinus.

  7. Christina says:

You really caught the magic of the moment Pauline, the Stipa caught my eye too but also the Hosta sieboldiana, with the rain drops in tight balls with the rest of the leaf completely dry. You seem to be having the rain we had in May and June; it is hot now, very hot 31 – 33°C, I don’t expect it to cool down now until September.

    • Pauline says:

I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to stand your heat Christina, definitely not till September! I thought I would make the most of the raindrops and I’m glad did, we haven’t had any rain since then, hopefully our weather is now improving!

  8. Cathy says:

So lovely, especially on the Stipa. It has been very showery here too, until today – just two or three spots of rain passing over, so the driest day all summer I think! I hope you don’t get any nasty insects like us though.

What a delightful collections of jeweled pics…gorgeous! Looking forward to hearing more about your new project.xxx

    • Pauline says:

There always seems to be a project waiting to be done Dina, a garden is never finished! This one will include some pots and some paint!

  10. Kate Patel says:

Lovely images, Pauline. Grasses are great at catching mist and raindrops as your Stipa gigantea demonstrates so perfectly. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the gravel area.

    • Pauline says:

Thanks Kate, the Stipa looked just wonderful bedecked with rain drops. Having mentioned the gravel area means I will have to get on with it now!

  11. Cathy says:

Lovely photos, especially of the stipa and fennel; some showers, but nothing heavy here and the garden is drying up again!!

    • Pauline says:

At last we have some sunshine, yesterday was our first day without rain for such a long time, I’d forgotten how hot the sun could be! It is such a long time since we had to water the fruit, must get organised once more!

  12. Beautiful! Your plan worked perfectly, the drops really do look like diamonds. It has been hot and dry here, but thankfully we had a brief thunderstorm last night. I could almost hear the plants sighing. Irrigation just doesn’t do the trick.

    • Pauline says:

Since I took the photos Marian, we have had non stop hot sunshine! Suddenly it has gone from being cold to really hot, it will take me a while to get used to it.Plants in the garden certainly enjoy a good downpour, they look so much better the next day.

  13. wendy says:

You’ve captured the beauty of raindrops so well in your photos. I do wish there had been a bit less rain this summer, though! Look forward to seeing how you get on with the gravel area.

    • Pauline says:

Thank you Wendy, it was so tempting to photograph them all. At last we are having some lovely hot sunshine, it makes a really nice change from always having rain!
First thing do do for the gravel area is to go and buy a tin of paint!

  14. Frank says:

The fresh growth with raindrops always looks best. I wish we had more of that in my garden!

    • Pauline says:

The raindrops certainly made the garden look freshly washed Frank, all the flowers and leaves looked very bright and perky. At last our rain has stopped and we are now having some much longed for sunshine.
